Sean McNulty Mayoral Candidate Central SaanichSean was born at Victoria General Hospital on May 24th, 1984. He grew up working in a family business, Five Star Paving, and saw first hand the results of dedication, perseverance and effort by watching his Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, Mom and Uncle build the company up to the impressive business it is today. In 2004, Sean moved to Vancouver for a year and worked at the Vancouver Real Estate Board. In 2005, he returned to take positions at Island View Golf Centre and Five Star Paving.

Under his management, Island View Golf Centre has been awarded the “Best New Range in Canada by Golf Range Times”, placed in the “Best Place to Swing a Golf Club” category at the Peninsula Readers Choice Award, one of Island Views employees was a runner up in the “Employee of the Year” category at the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards, he himself was nominated “Entrepreneur of the Year” by the Victoria Chamber of Commerce and in 2008 Island View was awarded “Business of the Year” at the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards. He stresses integrity-based performance, discipline, hard work, and has an undying passion for supplying his customers with the best product and services possible.

At Five Star Paving, he has ran both large and small job sites, built on an already healthy client base and completed many successful projects on time and on budget. The family business has grown close to 20% in the last year alone, which is a testament to the job Sean, James, Wayne and Craig McNulty do, plus the rest of the great staff there.

In the winter of 2006, Sean enrolled in economics and international business courses at the University of Victoria while continuing to run Island View Golf Centre and fulfill his role at Five Star Paving.

Sean was voted on to the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors in 2007, serving on both the awards committee and heads the committee organizing the golf tournament. The awards dinner and the Golf Tournament were both successes and Sean has a lot of fun being involved with them.

Sean was elected President of the Saanich Peninsula Toastmasters Club in 2007 and has completed his CTM plus represented the Club in a speech evaluation contest. As president, the club was awarded as a ‘Select Distinguished Club’ in the 2007-2008 Distinguished Club Program and he took on the initiative to host the Area 3 International Speech Contest which was an excellent event that received some great press coverage (see Talking the Talk). He has been a member since September 2005.

In 2007, he obtained his Student Pilot License from the Victoria Flying Club at Victoria International Airport. He’s has 45+ hours flying Cessna’s which includes solo flights to Campbell River and Nanaimo. Sean and his brother James purchased a boat in 2006 and they both love to cruise the world class waters around the Saanich Peninsula in their spare time.

In terms of physical activities, Sean enjoys golf and competes in amateur tournaments all golf season. In 2007, Andrew Wintraub and himself won the Winspear Cup at Glen Meadows on behalf of the Island View Golf Team, which they are both members of. To keep in shape, Sean works out six days a week at VI Fitness on Oldfield Road.
